What Can You Put in a Dumpster?

If you're renting a 20-yard dumpster from Hurst Earthworks, here's a complete guide to what materials are accepted.

General Household Items

Most household junk is accepted in our dumpsters. This includes old furniture (couches, tables, chairs, dressers), clothing and textiles, boxes and packaging, toys, books, and general clutter from garage, basement, or attic cleanouts.

Construction & Renovation Debris

Drywall, lumber, plywood, flooring (hardwood, laminate, tile), cabinets, countertops, doors, windows, trim, and other building materials from remodels and renovations are all accepted. This is one of the most common uses for our 20-yard dumpsters.

Roofing Materials

Shingles, underlayment, flashing, and other roofing debris are accepted with prior authorization. Shingles are heavy — our 4,000 lb weight allowance handles most standard residential roofs. Learn more about dumpster rental for roofing jobs.

Yard Waste & Landscaping Debris

Brush, branches, stumps, sod, dirt (small amounts), leaves, and general landscaping debris from property cleanups. Large amounts of dirt or heavy materials should be discussed in advance to avoid weight overages.

Appliances (With Prior Approval)

Ovens, microwaves, washers, dryers, dishwashers, and water heaters may be placed in the dumpster with prior authorization. Items containing freon (refrigerators, freezers, A/C units) require a $65 disposal fee per unit. Always call us first.

Estate & Property Cleanouts

Clearing out an estate, rental property, or storage unit? Our 20-yard dumpsters handle the full range of household items, furniture, and accumulated junk that comes with these projects.
