Dumpster Rental for Roofing Jobs

Tearing off a roof? Here's what you need to know about renting a dumpster for your roofing project in Southern Ohio.

What Size Dumpster Do You Need for a Roofing Job?

A 20-yard dumpster is the right size for most residential roofing tear-offs. It holds approximately 20 cubic yards of material — enough for a standard single-layer shingle removal on a typical home (up to about 2,000 sq ft of roof area).

⚠️ Important: Shingles Are Heavy

Roofing shingles are one of the heaviest materials you can put in a dumpster. A standard bundle of 3-tab shingles weighs about 60–80 lbs. A full roof tear-off can easily weigh 3,000–5,000+ lbs depending on the roof size and number of layers.

Our weekly rental includes 4,000 lbs. Most single-layer residential roofs fit within this allowance. Multi-layer roofs or larger homes may exceed it — call us to discuss your specific project.

Tips for Renting a Dumpster for Your Roof

  • 1.Call ahead for authorization. Roofing shingles require prior approval because of their weight. Let us know it's a roofing job when you book.
  • 2.Know your roof layers. A single-layer tear-off typically stays within 4,000 lbs. Two or three layers will likely exceed it. We can help you estimate.
  • 3.Position the dumpster close to the work area. Roofers often throw shingles directly from the roof into the dumpster. Place it as close to the house as possible.
  • 4.Protect your driveway. A loaded dumpster full of shingles is extremely heavy. Place plywood under the dumpster to protect concrete or asphalt surfaces.
  • 5.Book early. Roofing season (spring through fall) is our busiest time. Schedule your dumpster at least a few days before your roofing crew starts.

Roofing Contractors: Consider an Annual Plan

If you're a roofing contractor doing multiple jobs per month, our annual plans offer significant savings. The Pay Per Dump plan keeps a dumpster on your site year-round for $200/month, and you only pay $350 per dump with volume pricing that drops to $300. Compare all plans →
